Why Youth Ministry?
Well, after living in Alaska for about two years, I have to say this is a pretty amazing state. I’ve seen volcanoes erupt, ash fall, the Iditarod, Robert Service poems, moose in the city, moose in the woods, fake moose (Marty’s April fool’s joke), talks of bears “waking up early”, South High, track meets in the melting snow, sunny days, snowy nights, rugged peaks, crazy salmon fishing, got sick fishing for halibut on the ocean, great hiking trails, epic adventures, awesome skiing, great connections, and a loving community. What does God have in store for us next??
So I thought I would talk a little bit on why I think youth ministry is important and a vision for Amazing Grace’s Youth & Family Ministry. First of all, its pretty fun!! Hanging out with kids, teenagers, and young adults talking about God, faith, and life is really my passion and God’s calling right now in my life. The youth are not the future, they are the present and the future. They are capable of more things now than ever before. We need to provide a place for growth, support, and love for our youth to help them find their way and find God in this life. I really want to be an older mentor and friend outside the home to our youth.
Our vision would be to create and strengthen relationships between young people, Jesus, their friends/peers, adult mentors, and parents/family. Through these relationships youth will learn to model their faith through discipleship, action, and service.
Our vision is that the youth and families will continue to grow outside of the church as they experience new things and actively participate in each other’s lives.
